A New Year Resolution without year-round follow through is simply a wish or a goal that is unlikely to be achieved, a mere passing thought, likely to become a distant memory in the haze of champagne bubbles…

LOOK. If it’s important enough to resolve to do it today, then making a commitment to stick to a resolution, regardless of the time of year, is essential for achieving it.

Without regular review and follow-through, a resolution is unlikely to become a reality.

So how can you ensure regular review and follow through of your New Year resolutions?

First, don’t make resolutions alone. Have an  accountability partner. Having an accountability partner works because it provides a trusted confidant who can give you honest feedback, provide motivation and support, and encourage you to stay on track with your goals. This person can also help you stay focused and set realistic expectations. They are best suited for this role if they are reliable, trustworthy, and can provide constructive criticism. They should be someone who has similar goals and values as you, so they can provide effective advice and support.

Second, set reminders to ensure your resolution gets frequent attention throughout the year. Energy flows where attention flows.

What ever system of reminders that works for you is what is best for you. Some people set automated reminders on their phone or computer through apps or email services, digital to-do lists, calendars, schedulers and even project management software. Others place sticky notes around their home (on the mirror, or on the fridge!) or workspace, while others set alarms on your watch or other device. If none of that works you can ask a friend or family member for reminders.

As you go, continually break your resolution down into smaller, achievable tasks, and review progress regularly. Develop a plan of action and track your progress towards the goal until it’s completed! ✅

A third tip, celebrate! 🥳 Celebrating progress toward a goal helps to keep motivation high and reinforces the behavior that is getting you closer to achieving the goal. Celebrating progress can also provide a sense of accomplishment and can help you to stay focused and motivated, and also a sense of community and camaraderie among those working together to reach the goal. Celebrating progress can help to create a positive working environment and can be a great way to boost morale.

To that point, the turn of the new year is not only about plans and hopes for the coming year but also celebrating your progress you’ve made in 2022, so congratulations to you! 🎉 Happy New Year!
