Operation Chrysalis: A Mission to ensure by all means necessary that Houston’s at-risk minority school aged children emerge prepared to lead in their communities.

Houston’s youth are Our most precious resource. The future of this city depends largely and significantly on the outcomes of its future leaders who are now high school-aged youth, many of which live at or below the poverty line. Houston’s youth are OUR youth and their problems are our problems. We want and need our young people to be prepared to compete in this knowledge-based economy and succeed in life.

It still takes a village. By promoting, supporting, encouraging and enhancing existing youth programs which empower school aged children, and encouraging and rewarding earnest volunteer activity towards those objectives, we will evoke the hidden talents and strengths of everyone in our community to contribute in their own way towards our succeeding together.

We, as concerned members of the Houston community, must resolve to take ownership of the problem and its solutions to combat apathetic attitudes with ACTION. We must act “independently” of the actions and decisions of “Independent School Districts” which we do not control. We must strive to cut off the pipeline from poverty to prison, from the school yard to the prison yard. We envision working together as a unified coalition to solidify an unprecedented support network for our youth by strengthening working relationships between existing and newly formed non-profit community agencies, churches, businesses, parents, teachers, concerned community members and, most importantly, the students themselves.
